I started to attend a phonics training course for mummies which spans over 6 weeks. It's conducted by Jann, a SAHM who has some background in early childhood. She has developed lesson plans for children around 2 - 5 years old to encourage early literacy.
After attending the lesson over the weekend, I learnt quite a fair bit. Being totally clueless about phonics, I thought it wouldn't be too tough since there are various learning aids available in the market. I was glad that I signed up for this course. I learnt that there could be more than one sound for each alphabet. The DVDs which we watched certainly didn't tell us that. On top of that, she shared about prompting techniques as well, which I found really useful.
I love the lesson plans which she had shared too. It is very clear, organised and even come with craft materials. It aligns with my concept of teaching K, which is learning through play. The lesson plans are very good fundamental, which I plan to add on more activties, depending on how K progresses.
I think she is a nice and thoughful lady. She does take into the consideration of the age of our children, and give pointers for the activties accordingly. I get more inspired by her as she shares her personal experiences and feedback of parents who use her lesson plans.
I can't wait to start K on this!
